Porn/Fight The New Drug-Part One: The Coolidge Effect

Porn. Porn for a lot of us is second nature, especially if you’re single. You’ve probably just finished off a session prior to this article. Weirdly, it’s become natural, as if there is nothing wrong with the activity of flicking on your computer, typing in your favorite website among the millions and million of choices available, and then finding the right video. The right video is key isn’t it? You have a type don’t you? Interracial? Teen? Police? There’s many types, there’s many women you’re watching and this may all seem fine on the outside. But what about on the inside.

The Coolidge Effect.the-coolidge-effect-graph-e1503335252180.png

The Coolidge effect is a phenomenon seen in animal species whereby males (and to a lesser extent females) exhibit renewed sexual interest if introduced to new receptive sexual partners, even after cessation of sex with prior but still available sexual partners.

How does that have anything to do with porn you ask? Well, if you’re reading this and you’re in a relationship you have to listen up. If you are in a relationship, well a loyal one anyways, the person you are committed to is your sexual partner. This person should be the only person you are releasing your sexual energy with or on. This is the general premise of a healthy sexual relationship. BUT, if you watch porn while you are in a relationship, your partner stops being your only sexual partner. Depending on how often you watch porn, let’s say for example once a day, you are being introduced to new sexual partners each time. Sexual partners that have different qualities that you excite the watcher in different ways then there one actual sexual partner can.

What is the end effect?

This leads to decreased intimacy with your other half. The introduction of numerous other sexual partners and sexual experiences means that when it comes around to having sex with your partner, she has nothing to offer you. You’ve seen it all before and you’re one click away from immediate gratification from a sexual partner with much more to offer, even if it’s only on a screen, than you’re partner.

A Psychological view on the Porn.

“Young boys should stop watching porn and clean their rooms”- Jordan .B Peterson

A shocking study done by Canadian researcher Simon Lajeunesse found out that most boys seek pornography by age 10. 10 years old. Crazy. I associate 10 year old’s with acting out Royal Rumble matches with their WWE figurines. Triple H diving over the top rope onto a helpless John Cena. That’s the idea I have in my head of a ten year old. Young and innocent, not searching up internet porn. Being exposed to unrealistic erotic scenes that have no baring on an actual pure raw sexual relationship. 10 year old minds being warped, growing up with the belief that this is right. Being brainwashed into the belief that this is how we should view women. Objectifying a human being into being nothing more than a sexual being draped in skimpy lingerie and ready to do anything a man says.

“Without the Coolidge Effect there would be no internet porn”. This is a quote from Psychologist Gary Wilson, who done a TedTalk called, “The Great Porn Experiment”. If mammals didn’t have the capacity in our brains to fantasize and wonder what another partner would be like, Porn wouldn’t be a thing.

Porn in Ireland

I’ll finish this article by linking to my next. Being from Ireland i’m interested to know just how much this new drug affects the country I live in. In an article done in the Times by Kate Holmquist, Irish girl Rachel, who chose to have her second name blocked, talks of how her partners sexual partners porn addiction affected her life.

“He pulled me down into a darkness that made me feel so dirty I could never scrub myself clean again,

“pornography is a criminal industry created and manipulated by men; where women are treated like lumps of meat . . . they don’t have a voice and neither do we as women. And pornography is in every bedroom in the country – on the Luas, in the sitting-room. It’s cyber kerb-crawling.”

Porn is everywhere, Ireland, America and even under you’re own roof. It’s a drug, a new drug. A drug that needs to have laws implemented.
